Grooms Cakes
Since the cake ingredient costs are normally minimal, time and design variations
are the most costly factors in determining the final price of your Wedding and
Groom's Cake(s). Our Wedding Cakes are generally priced with a per person
rate. Smaller wedding and groom's cakes are priced per project basis. Larger
parties may have the option of a smaller set-up cake with an undecorated
back-up cake. The back-up cakes are priced at $1.50+ per person. A Grooms
Cake can range from a simple sheet cake up to an elaborate sculpted cake. A
price can only be given once a design has been decided upon.Prices start at
$1.50 for basic Buttercream Iced Cakes.Prices do not include deposits for cake
displays, Gumpaste or Icing flowers.
What is a grooms cake you ask?
The tradition originated in the South and was meant as a symbol of the couples sweet life together.
Traditional Cakes
For many years the Groom's cake has served as a type of favor for the guests. It was usually a dark
fruitcake which was baked in advance, cut up into small squares and put into little monogrammed boxes.
The boxes were given to the guests to take home. The time, labor and cost in doing this ultimately led to
the virtual end to this tradition.
Modern Cake Designs
Today the Groom's cake really serves as a way for the Groom to have his own special part of the reception
or rehearsal dinner. The cake often hints at some aspect of the Groom's personality. If the Groom loves to
play golf, the cake may resemble a golf bag.
Who Orders?
The Bride usually orders the Groom's cake from the same baker who is providing the wedding cake. Unless
the Groom was in on the original decision, the Bride usually keeps the design of the cake a secret until the
wedding day. Some Groom's prefer to order the Groom's cake themselves, keeping it a secret from the
Bride. Either way, the Grooms' cake can be a fun part of the wedding celebration.
When Do We Display The Cake?
Some couples choose to serve the Grooms' cake at the rehearsal dinner as a dessert because it is often a
"less serious" cake than the wedding cake. Other couples choose to display both the wedding cake and the
Grooms' cake at the wedding, allowing the Grooms' cake to serve as another dessert option. Either way,
both are acceptable.
GROOMS CAKE
We put a lot of personal details into this cake. Figures were modeled after the
bride & groom with their college logos on the backs of the jerseys. Basketball nets
were made from dental floss and the backstops made from royal icing. The
scoreboard, which featured the wedding date as the score and the years they were
born as the score. (of course it was a setup that the bride would win) By dinner
the score was changed to 70-74 in favor of UK so we had to remove a few dots to
make the score 70-14 in favor of Duke. Small royal icing covered styrofoam balls in
the corners.

BEARD/CAMPBELL GROOMS CAKE
This cake was a big challenge for me. And yes, it is cake and yes it is hanging.
The bride gave me full artistic license on this. She didn't even know I was going to
hang it, so they were both surprised when they walked into the reception. The
guests & catering staff didn't realize it was cake.
For those who don't know, it's the Star Wars Death Star. The top half was the
cake, the bottom half was styrofoam. Miniature jet fighters finished the design.
I enlisted the help of the grooms brother to make the display for me. Even that
was a secret from the couple.
